Description
With temperature fluctuations over 30-40 years, the original E30 glove box latch housing can develop cracks and become brittle, leading to eventual breakage. The rest of the assembly including the latches, spring, tumbler and outer lever are Usually still fine. Rather than replace the whole assembly, just replace the latch housing! This allows you to keep your original tumbler, key, and other components*.
The glove box latch housing is what contains the “drive” latch and “driven” latch. If, like most E30 glove box latch housings, yours is cracking and crumbling with age, you can now replace it with a new, 3D printed part. This allows you to replace it without having to get the entire OEM assembly. Simply remove the latches from the old breaking or broken housing**, and transfer them to a new, 3D printed housing. It’s an easy, 5min job that will keep your glove box operating perfectly for another 30+ years!
*It is recommended that you replace the drive latch at the same time as the latch housing. The drive latch is another part with high failure rates relative to the driven latch.
**Take care when removing the latches. The spring can pop out and fling into a faraway crevice never to be found again!
